Helping you connect with God

A congregation is a wonderful place to make and strengthen friendships.   In fact, many of our members count one another as some of their very best friends.
But there is a greater mission for the church — to help people to choose friendship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.
There are thousands of different ideas around the world for how to get to heaven where God and Jesus will treat believers like best friends forever.
At SouthWinds Christian Church, though, we believe the simple answers to simple questions is most helpful to people.

How do I get to heaven?

Step One
Regognize God’s desire for you: God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life–abundant and eternal.

• “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
• “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
• “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Step Two
Recognize that God’s desire for our sincere love HAD to allow for  freedom of choice. And every human except one chose to disobey God and go his or her own willful way. We still make this choice today. This results in separation from God. The Bible says…

• “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
• “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” Proverbs 14:12
• “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2
No bridge reaches God…except the one mentioned in John 14:6. And His name is Jesus.

Step Three
Recognize that the bridge between our sin and salvation is found in Jesus Christ who died on the Cross and rose from the grave. He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and people.

• ”For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
• “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.” 1 Timothy 2:5
• “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18
• ”But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
God has provided the only way. The Jesus way. Each person must make a choice.

Step Four
Recognize that salvation becomes ourse when we trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, personally inviting Him onto the throne of our lives and living according to His teaching.
• ”Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
• “What shall we do? Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptised for the forgivness of your sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

If you want to make Jesus Christ Lord of your life right now, you are to do what all converts did in the 1st Century Church:
  1. Admit your need as a sinner.
  2. Be willing to turn from your sins by repenting of sinful choices.
  3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave.
  4. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, receiving him as your Savior.
  5. Be buried in baptism (immersion) into Christ.
  6. Rejoice in the assurance of a “forever” life in heaven and the promise of a “better than ever” life on earth..

So where do I go from here?

Connect yourself to a Bible-believing and Christ-preaching local congregation.  If you need help finding one, click this link. Become a member of the church and let them help you in your new life in Christ. They are a community of believers (the church). We need the fellowship of other believers and their accountability in order to grow in strength and in the likeness of Christ.  You can not be a lone-ranger Christian and mature as a follower of Christ.  To deepen your relationship with God, His Son, His Spirit and His people:

  • Read your Bible everyday to know Christ better.  Save the One-Year Bible Online to your website favorites.  It’s SO simple to use.
  • Talk to God in prayer every day. Starting with five minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night is easy and fulfilling.
  • Tell others about Christ, even if just talking about a little blessing that came your way.
  • Worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached, like SouthWinds Christian Church
  • As Christ’s representative in a needy world, demonstrate your new life by your love and concern for others
  • Remember that you’re on a journey that will last forever.  You’ll have good days and some days that are less so.  Through it all, God will be with you.  Just trust Him.  The video below should help you know more of what to expect.
